What is special about phosphatidylserine?



Phosphatidylserine is a type of phospholipid that is similar to DHA and B vitamins. It is also important for brain nutrition. Although it is found in small amounts in the body, it is the main acidic phospholipid in the brain. Among many phospholipids, phosphatidylserine liquid is the only phospholipid that regulates the functional state of key proteins in cell membranes, which affects the transmission of chemical information in the brain. So, what role does phosphatidylserine play in our brains? It is an important nutrient for maintaining normal brain memory, response, and healthy mood. It helps brain cells store and read data, improves brain function, and repairs brain damage.

Studies have found that phosphatidylserine can affect the transmission of nerve signals, memory, and the learning ability of some nerve functions, DHA affects the body's phosphatidylserine synthesis. In animal studies, we found that when mice were fed a diet lacking DHA, the total amount of phosphatidylserine in the brain tissue of mice was reduced by about 30%, and in vitro culture of nerve cells, increasing DHA only increased the amount of phosphatidylserine produced in nerve cells. However, it could not increase phosphatidylserine synthesis in other non-nerve cells. The total amount of phosphatidylserine in nerve cells and non-nerve cells was increased by DHA supplementation, but the total amount of phosphatidylserine did not change. Therefore, DHA could promote phosphatidylserine production.
